The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Relations, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has characterized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent diplomatic initiative in the United Kingdom as a tactical maneuver that reinforces Nigeria’s significance on the global stage.
In a declaration released in Abuja, Ibrahim, who represents the Ondo South Senatorial District, stated that the President’s outreach occurs at a crucial moment in global affairs, where international relations are influenced by a combination of rivalry, collaboration, and emerging ideological divides.
He observed that the existing geopolitical landscape displays indicators of a re-emerging global dichotomy, necessitating countries to adopt intentional and cooperative diplomatic methods.
According to him, Tinubu’s engagement highlights Nigeria’s readiness to navigate the changing global framework with insight and equilibrium, while upholding its dedication to multilateralism and conversation.
The legislator further emphasized the diplomatic importance of the President’s interaction with the British monarchy under Charles III, noting that it reaffirms the long-standing historical and institutional ties connecting Nigeria and the UK.
He elaborated that allusions to the doctrine rex non potest peccare underscore the continuity and steadiness associated with constitutional monarchies and their lasting role in diplomacy.
Ibrahim indicated that the visit conveys a potent message that Nigeria continues to be a major participant in global matters, equipped to foster collaboration across geopolitical groups.
He added that the nation’s foreign policy under Tinubu is increasingly characterized by practicality, inclusivity, and strategic alignment with international partners in the pursuit of national interests.
The Senator also revealed that the engagement has elicited positive responses from foreign policy specialists and members of the diplomatic community, who deemed it as opportune and future-oriented.
As per him, development allies view the renewed Nigeria-UK relations as a gateway for enhanced prospects in trade, investment, security collaboration, and cultural exchanges.
“President Tinubu has shown that Nigeria can effectively engage across geopolitical boundaries, harnessing historical alliances while moving forward with contemporary national priorities.
“His actions are precise, timely, and strategically astute. Undoubtedly, history will treat him favorably,” Ibrahim stated.
He mentioned that Nigeria’s revitalized diplomatic endeavor aligns with the broader aims of the United Nations in fostering peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.
Ibrahim noted that stronger engagement with key partners like the United Kingdom solidifies Nigeria’s position as a stabilizing entity in Africa and a credible voice on the international platform.
He asserted that the visit was not solely ceremonial but a well-calibrated diplomatic initiative aimed at bolstering Nigeria’s global stature and advancing a clear, deliberate foreign policy trajectory.
