Lagos Shrouded in Darkness Following Dramatic Tanker Blaze

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company, EKEDC, has verified a power interruption affecting portions of Lagos State following a blaze along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

In a declaration, the firm linked the disruption to an incident involving a moving automobile and a stationary gas transport truck, which ignited a fire that inflicted substantial damage to vital electricity infrastructure.

According to EKEDC, the inferno significantly affected the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, ruining essential conductors and overhead line components, thus severing power supply to numerous communities.

“Kindly be informed that the present outage stemmed from a fire occurrence that took place last night after a vehicle struck a stationary gas tanker,” the company remarked.

“The fire caused considerable destruction to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, including crucial conductors and overhead line apparatus. Our technical teams are presently engaged in substituting the impacted components and restoring supply as promptly and safely as feasible. We sincerely regret any inconvenience,” the statement continued.

Regions impacted by the outage comprise communities served by the Medallion feeder, including Medallion Company, alongside Sangotedo, Majek, Fidiso, Awoyaya, Container, Eputu, Lagasa, Losoro, Kajola, and Onisan, all connected to the Ibeju 33kV feeder.

This incident occurs shortly after a gas blast in the Ajah section of Lagos earlier on Saturday, which allegedly resulted in two deaths and caused significant harm to warehouses and roadside shops near the Tera Ahmed bus stop in Sangotedo.

Inhabitants in the affected regions have been advised to stay vigilant as repair activities proceed, with the distribution company assuring that power will be reinstated once it is safe to do so.
