Forces of Operation Hadin Kai have detained a suspected affiliate of the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
A counter-insurgency and security specialist in the Lake Chad area, Zagazola Makama, revealed this on X.
Makama stated that troops from the 25 Brigade, in partnership with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, apprehended the suspect around 6:30 PM on March 18 following intelligence regarding a questionable phone conversation between him and another alleged militant.
It was further disclosed that the suspect, who lives in the general vicinity of Damboa, admitted during initial questioning to being part of ISWAP, claiming to have stepped back from active operations.
“The suspect along with his mobile device is presently in custody for further investigation and appropriate action,” Makama noted.
As per military officials, troops will sustain intelligence-led operations to locate and dismantle terrorist networks in the area.
