Nigerian reality television personality and performer, Bisola Aiyeola has revealed her initial emotional challenges as a single mother.
In an honest discussion with Tope Olowoniyan, the film star expressed that she felt traumatized upon learning she was expecting a child out of wedlock since her mother was also a single parent.
Aiyeola reminisced that she felt embarrassed and apprehensive that the pattern might perpetuate in her family and affect her own daughter.
“I was apprehensive and humiliated about being pregnant and welcoming a baby outside of marriage. I believed I would enter into matrimony because I was engaged at that time, but we never did,” she recounted.
“It was incredibly humiliating considering my mother was a single mother, and now I was on the verge of becoming one. I feared my child could endure a similar destiny,” she reflected.
The actress indicated that her family’s financial situation at that period made the idea of having a child unbearable for her, adding that she faced difficulties with nursing her daughter when she was born because she couldn’t come to terms with that being her reality at that moment.
The 40-year-old clarified that over time, she began to embrace her situation and appreciate her daughter more, irrespective of the circumstances surrounding her arrival.
She stated that looking back now, she feels thankful for having her daughter and for all the lessons gained from her journey.
