“Nigeria’s Next Steps: Why New Agreements Aren’t Necessary, According to Former UK Envoy”

Former Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland, Ijeoma Obiezu, has stated that Nigeria does not require new Memorandums of Understanding, MoUs, and agreements.

In an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Thursday, Obiezu remarked that what Nigeria truly needs is to leverage what has already been established.

Her comments follow the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding, MoUs, between the Nigerian government and the United Kingdom to enhance bilateral relations.

This signing occurred after President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the United Kingdom, accompanied by his wife, Remi.

Offering her perspective, the former diplomat stated, “We don’t require new MoUs and agreements. We need to utilize what has been accomplished and seek ways to genuinely implement them for the benefit of both nations involved.”

Discussing the immigration agreement signed by the two nations, the ex-ambassador added, “If you lack the essential requirements to be in another person’s country, you have no legitimate reason to be there.”

“Nevertheless, we also need to implement certain measures to ensure our own homeland is inviting and comfortable. The essence of existence is to secure a livelihood. If you cannot find your source of income here, seek methods to establish your livelihood.”

“I believe Nigerians should practice caution in their movements. They ought to travel only to places where they possess the necessary documentation and where they are permitted entry to avoid the humiliations we encounter abroad.”
