“Wadada Seeks Al-Makura’s Support as Gov Sule’s Endorsement Ignites Controversy”

Senator Aliyu Wadada, the gubernatorial candidate allegedly endorsed by Governor Abdullahi Sule for the Nasarawa State election, has met with former governor Tanko Al-Makura to solicit his backing just hours after Al-Makura criticized the method that led to his candidacy.

Al-Makura had previously criticized Sule for failing to consult him prior to endorsing Wadada and for presenting the candidate to the President too soon.

In a video shared on the X account of @NigAffairs, Wadada adopted a reconciliatory tone during the meeting, commending the former governor’s leadership and urging for solidarity.

“All those present here, and those who are not, express their gratitude to you for your forbearance,” Wadada stated. “I mentioned forbearance three times; you and I understand what I imply.”

He further acknowledged Al-Makura’s contribution to the progress of the state: “After expressing gratitude for your forbearance, we want to extend our thanks for your leadership. You guided this state and established a foundation. It’s undeniable that the groundwork you laid was intended for me.”

Al-Makura, who had previously opposed Wadada’s nomination, reportedly chuckled at that remark, eliciting laughter and applause from the attendees.

Wadada also emphasized the necessity of safeguarding lives in the state, momentarily switching to Hausa to reinforce his point: “Your Excellency, all of us gathered here bear the duty of safeguarding the lives of those in Nasarawa; you carry that duty more than any of us.”

He clarified that the former governor holds greater accountability, having been one of those consulted during the formation of Nasarawa State.

The senator urged Al-Makura to remain patient and maintain open lines of communication with him, as he also prayed for the former governor’s good health and for enduring peace in the state.

Recall that Tanko Al-Makura has expressed displeasure at the nomination of Wadada, asserting that he was not consulted regarding the decision.
