“Ukum in Turmoil: Devastating Rainstorm Wrecks Churches, Schools, and Homes”



A catastrophic downpour has inflicted ruin in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, leaving a path of devastation across churches, educational institutions, residential properties, and commercial enterprises.

The downpour, which commenced around 6:35 am on Wednesday, brought along intense winds that persisted for approximately an hour, damaging assets and plunging locals into sorrow as they face substantial losses.

Included among the structures affected were the Ukum Local Government guest house assembly hall, Hanank College, NKST Church Use, Roman Catholic Church Use, the boundary fence of Hon. Ukor, and private homes including those of Ezekiel Sevav, Bishop Igbudu, and Terna Kpelai, all found in the Chanel 2 settlement zone. Numerous other edifices were also impacted.

Sources indicate that some of the residences wrecked were owned by displaced individuals currently living in the vicinity.

Community members, including Mr. James Tor, Manasseh Agwaza, Paul Akera, and Emmanuel Chukwu, expressed their grief over their losses, attributing the calamity to divine intervention.

They urged benevolent individuals and organizations to extend assistance, emphasizing that many affected families are financially burdened due to the ongoing turmoil in the region.

While the downpour caused havoc in Chanel 2, the nearby town of Zaki Biam, located a few kilometers away, remained predominantly unaffected.
