“Tragedy Strikes: Police Launch Probe into Triple Deaths at Ekiti Celebration”



The Ekiti state police department has initiated an inquiry into the
deadly post-convocation event stampede in Ikere-Ekiti.

NAIJATAB informs that the occurrence which transpired in the early morning of Sunday, resulted in three fatalities including a recent graduate and the relative who came to join in the celebration.

Confirming the event in a statement provided to NAIJATAB on Sunday evening, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoroye Falade, mandated a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

While extending condolences to the families of the deceased, the commissioner, in a statement penned by the command’s spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, indicated that the victims’ remains have been transferred to the morgue for autopsy.

“The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoroye Falade, has instructed a detailed investigation into the incident that occurred at Emirate Hotel, Ikere-Ekiti, today being 19th of April at approximately 0100hrs, 2026 which led to the demise of a hotel staff member and two students from Bamidele Olumiluwa University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI).

“An initial inquiry suggested that the students, following their convocation on 18th April, 2028, opted to head to the hotel for a celebration.

“During the celebration which extended into the following day, two yet-to-be-identified students engaged in a dispute and began to fight. Others present attempted to flee the hotel premises resulting in a stampede that claimed the lives of three individuals,” he stated.

While expressing sympathy for the families and friends of the victims, the CP urged for tranquility, assuring that no effort will be spared regarding the unfortunate incident.
