Agents of the Department of State Services (DSS) have apprehended a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, for allegedly providing munitions to bandits, seizing over 200 rounds of ammunition from her during the operation.
The accused was reportedly intercepted on Wednesday at a bus terminal in Kano while conveying the ammunition from Lafia, Nasarawa State, to Kankara in Katsina State.
The delivery was believed to be intended for bandit factions operating in the forested regions of the North-West.
According to AIT, security sources revealed that “the apprehension was the result of actionable intelligence, which enabled agents to disrupt the supply chain prior to the delivery being completed.”
During questioning, Usman allegedly admitted that she had been engaged in the unlawful trade for approximately two months.
She reportedly disclosed that the ammunition was provided by an individual known as “Teso,” who is said to be collaborating with a military personnel based in Lafia.
The suspect also stated that she had facilitated transactions totaling around N5 million, supplying munitions to various individuals, including a bandit leader known as Mallam Haruna.
The DSS characterized the operation as a major accomplishment in ongoing initiatives to dismantle criminal networks that contribute to insecurity in the North-West.
Security agencies have since heightened efforts to locate other associates of the syndicate connected to the arms supply chain.
