Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State asserts that the determination of his successor will be established by the populace.
Disregarding rumors about supporting a specific gubernatorial candidate ahead of the 2027 elections, Fintiri stated that the authority resides entirely with the voters.
Speaking at a pivotal stakeholders’ gathering at the Government House in Yola, Fintiri highlighted his impartiality in the ongoing political competition.
“The ability to select leaders belongs to the citizens. No one shall make that choice for them,” the governor remarked, emphasizing that he is not endorsing any individual vying for his position.
He urged all candidates to engage with the community and gain their mandate through authentic interaction.
“Democratic governance should not be enforced but must be willingly granted by the citizens,” he stated, further assuring party members and gubernatorial contenders of an equitable process.
NAIJATAB reports that Fintiri had earlier indicated that only a grassroots politician would be deemed suitable as his heir.
In recent weeks, he has been widely rumored to prefer former Speaker and current senator representing the Central Zone, Aminu Iya Abbas, as his favored successor.
It is yet to be determined what the assurances he has recently provided will yield.
