“Amidst Opposition Turmoil, Adebayo Urges Nigerians to Embrace the 2027 Election”

The 2023 presidential aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has implored Nigerians to exercise their constitutional privilege to vote, cautioning against indifference or appeals for boycotts that could jeopardize the nation’s democratic framework.

Adebayo emphasized that active engagement in elections is pivotal to guaranteeing accountability and nurturing a government that mirrors the populace’s ambitions.

He articulated this on Wednesday, during his appearance on a current affairs show on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese-Ijebu, as observed by our correspondent in Abeokuta.

NAIJATAB reports that Nigeria’s opposition factions are in disarray prior to the 2027 elections, with the ADC, PDP, and other groups encountering severe internal leadership dilemmas.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also halted the acknowledgment of ADC factions, with certain leaders contemplating a 2027 boycott owing to perceived partiality.

Adebayo cautioned that withdrawal from the electoral process merely fortifies entrenched political interests, allowing politicians with dubious credentials to dominate the national arena.

He stated, “When citizens refrain from voting, it is not the politicians who suffer; it is the populace itself. SDP urges every Nigerian to acknowledge the influence they wield during elections, to dismiss calls for boycotts, and to ensure that their opinions are part of the national dialogue.

“Genuine change is unattainable without involvement, and our party is committed to encouraging Nigerians to exercise this fundamental entitlement.”

According to him, democracy necessitates the proactive participation of citizens, from casting votes to holding leaders accountable.

“I comprehend the skepticism many Nigerians harbor. It is simple to become disenchanted when promises are unfulfilled, when corruption appears unchecked, or when government actions fall short of expectations.

“However, disengagement is not a remedy. Opting to abstain from voting or advocating for a boycott merely returns power to the same figures and systems that perpetuate failure. It is the people’s responsibility to reclaim the process, to ensure their voices are acknowledged, and to demand accountability at every governmental level,” he said.

Adebayo underscored that voting constitutes both a right and a civic obligation, urging Nigerians to utilize the ballot as an instrument for reforming governance and redefining leadership.

He contended that substantial political transformation necessitates collective engagement and a focused effort to replace ineffective leadership through democratic channels.

Adebayo criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu, asserting that the government has failed to deliver on its commitments in crucial domains such as security, employment, economic advancement, and anti-corruption.

He expressed that the struggles faced by Nigerians signify a leadership failure that must be rectified through democratic reform.

“I would underscore that the government is not governing effectively. It is not providing for the Nigerian people. The commitments made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu… have not been fulfilled. The vast majority of Nigerians do not belong to any political party, and the government is failing them.”
