
Law enforcement officials have thwarted a bandit assault on a community surveillance and hunters’ base in Sukunkumi village, Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Intelligence sources indicated that the event took place around 7:30 pm on March 26, when approximately 15 heavily armed bandits on motorcycles attempted to seize control of the establishment.
As per counter-insurgency specialist Zagazola Makama, the sources mentioned that security teams promptly arrived at the location and engaged the assailants in a gunfight, compelling them to retreat into adjacent woodlands.
The sources further revealed that three motorcycles were retrieved from the location, including two that had previously been stolen from hunters during the confrontation.
Additionally, they reported that a member of the Community Watch, Yusuf Ibrahim, 30, suffered a gunshot injury to his left leg and was transported to General Hospital Kankia for medical attention.
The sources also noted that patrols and clearance operations have been intensified in the vicinity to pursue the escaping suspects and avert further assaults.
