The Kano State Police Command on Monday thwarted an attempted assault on stores in the Gyadi-Gyadi region of the state, apprehending six alleged miscreants following a fierce confrontation involving opposing ‘Yan Daba factions.
As per a communication released by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command moved promptly after receiving an emergency call at approximately 1:20 p.m. notifying them that suspected troublemakers had gathered for a confrontation.
“Upon receiving the notification, patrol squads were promptly dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, officers witnessed a fierce clash between suspected ‘Yan Daba factions.”
During the altercation, the suspects reportedly damaged an ambulance and attempted to escalate the violence to surrounding areas.
The situation intensified when the delinquents launched an attack on the police.
“They later reformed and assaulted police officers with lethal weapons and stones. The assault was expertly thwarted by the operatives,” the communication continued.
The suspects then made their way towards Farm Centre Market, where they reportedly attempted to force entry into stores and plunder goods.
However, backup teams were swiftly summoned to the scene, averting further destruction.
“The thugs were subsequently scattered and six suspects were taken into custody,” Kiyawa stated.
According to the communication, peace has since been reinstated in the affected areas.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the officers for their swift actions.
He acknowledged their bravery, composure, and professionalism.
He remarked that their efforts prevented a breakdown of law and order as well as potential loss of assets.
The police chief also cautioned against thuggery and similar behaviors in the state.
“The Command will not accept any form of thuggery or disruption of public tranquility in Kano State. Parents and guardians are urged to advise their wards, as anyone found instigating trouble will be apprehended and prosecuted.”
