
The Nigerian Army announced that its forces have liberated a kidnapped individual and retrieved the amount of N8 million disbursed as ransom by a family to extremists in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A release endorsed by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, indicated that the troops stationed in Sector 9 Shendam successfully liberated the kidnapped individual and retrieved the ransom paid by the family during a synchronized operation on Saturday, 25 April, 2026.
It highlighted the operation as a testament to the military’s resolve in dismantling criminal enterprises and safeguarding citizens within the Operation Enduring Peace joint operations sector.
The rescue effort was launched following the kidnapping of a female individual from the Bauna locality of Shendam Local Government Area on 19 April 2026.
Oteh remarked that, “Through diligent intelligence gathering and the questioning of an apprehended suspect who admitted to the offense, troops successfully pinpointed the victim’s location at Padam Forest in Quanpan Local Government Area, where the victim was located and saved.
“The operation also led to the recovery of the total of 8 million Naira which was earlier paid by the victim’s family as ransom to the abductors.
“Post-rescue, the victim underwent a comprehensive medical examination at the general hospital Shendam to ensure her welfare before being officially reunited with her family. The ransom amounting to 8 million Naira was returned to the family.”
He mentioned that troops are presently conducting follow-up operations on the kidnappers’ hideouts within Quanpan and Shendam LGAs to identify and capture additional members of the group.
The Operation expressed gratitude to the populace for their assistance, while urging for more timely information that would facilitate the sustenance of peace and security in the Joint Operations Zone.
