Tragedy Strikes in Edo: 12 Lives Lost and 14 Injured in Devastating Road Accident



No fewer than 12 individuals have reportedly perished in a tragic roadway incident in Edo State.

NAIJATAB reports that 14 others suffered varying levels of injuries.

The representative of the Edo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Patricia Onwochei, who validated the incident, stated it transpired at the Egono community on the Auchi-Ewu-Benin highway.

Onwochei, who linked the incident to improper overtaking, mentioned that a truck involved in the collision veered off the road and toppled.

She noted that the truck, transporting passengers and cargo en route to Benin City, dangerously overtook another vehicle at a high velocity and, in the process, tipped over, entrapping some of the passengers.

She mentioned that 12 individuals lost their lives, while 14 others suffered injuries in the incident.

She added that one of the deceased was interred, while 11 were placed at St. Lazarus Hospital mortuary.

NAIJATAB obtained information from a source indicating that 37 passengers were implicated in the incident; 12 lost their lives, 14 sustained varying levels of injuries, while the others escaped without harm.

The source further indicated that the truck was carrying both goods and passengers when the incident occurred.

He mentioned that the vehicle tipped over and entrapped most of the victims.
