Alleged criminals invaded the palace of a customary leader in Olayinka community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, early on Saturday morning and kidnapped the monarch.
There were contradictory accounts regarding the event. As reported by the Nigerian Tribune, some local sources indicated that the monarch’s spouse and another individual were also taken, while the police asserted that solely the traditional leader was seized.
The Kwara State Police Commissioner, Adekimi Ojo, verified that only the monarch was abducted and mentioned that the assailants also pilfered a significant amount of money from the palace.
He stated that the monarch had brought the cash home on Friday prior to the armed intruders striking in the early hours of Saturday.
The assailants reportedly burst into the palace around 1:40 am, discharging gunfire into the air before taking the monarch away.
The captured monarch was said to have been recently promoted and officially installed by the Kwara State Government earlier this year, rendering the incident even more astonishing to residents.
This marks the third occasion in approximately a year that a traditional leader has been abducted in Kwara South.
