The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ebonyi State has ridiculed the opposition Africa Democratic Congress, ADC, for organizing a rival State congress that resulted in distinct leadership within the state.
One faction selected Barr. Silas Onu as Chairman, while another faction designated Mrs. Jennifer Adibe Nwafor as State Chairperson.
In his acceptance address at their faction’s Congress held at Preston Hotel in Abakaliki on Saturday, Silas Onu stated that the ADC under his guidance would seize power from the ruling APC in 2027.
“There is significant turmoil within the opposition ranks; we refer to them as opposition because they are the ruling party yet act like an opposition. They are apprehensive due to the caliber of individuals chosen to lead ADC in Ebonyi.
“We will nominate candidates for all posts, including the Governorship. We will not only contest with them; we shall surpass them,” Onu declared.
However, the Chairman of APC in the state, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, in his response urged ADC not to squander their energy discussing APC and the 2027 elections in the state.
Through his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Prince Chijioke Agwu, Chief Emegha recommended that the opposition party focus its time and resources on resolving its internal disputes.
“Ebonyi ADC should, first and foremost, settle its internal disputes before addressing the 2027 general elections.
“They ought to clarify to the people of Ebonyi who among Adibe Nwafor and Silas Onu is their legitimate State chairman.
“In APC, our Chairman is Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha; and there is no one else claiming his position. That is how to identify a party prepared for elections.
“I urge both factions not to waste their energy discussing the APC and the 2027 elections. They should direct their time and resources towards resolving their internal conflicts, both at the State and national levels.
“The citizens of Ebonyi are satisfied with Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and the ruling APC, and they will demonstrate this again through their votes in 2027,” he stated.
