
Officials from the Delta police command have eliminated two individuals from a kidnapping group active in Ubulu-Uku and adjacent areas in Aniocha South local government region, Delta State.
A collaborative unit of police and military personnel neutralized the alleged criminals and secured two female captives.
An amount of N4,200,000, considered to be a portion of the ransom taken from victims, was also seized.
As stated by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, agents from the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad, in a coordinated effort with the armed forces, tracked the suspected abductors to their hiding place along the power line in Ubulu-Uku during the early morning hours.
This operation was prompted by a reported kidnapping incident in Ibusa and Enu-Ani Mega City, Ogwashi-Uku.
Upon encountering the operatives, the suspects opened fire, resulting in a gunfight, while the altercation led to the rescue of the two female captives, and the suspects sustained severe gunshot wounds.
Edafe noted that the wounded suspects were transported to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead by the attending physician.
Items retrieved from the location include one AK-47 rifle, 19 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and the total of N4,200,000 believed to be a segment of the ransom acquired from victims.
Edafe mentioned that a search of the surrounding vegetation is ongoing, aiming to recover further weapons and detain fleeing associates of the gang.
In his response, the State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the operatives and the backing of the military, emphasizing that such cross-agency cooperation is vital in addressing violent offenses.
He assured residents that the Command remains steadfast in its dedication to protecting lives and property, and urged community members to continue providing reliable and prompt information to the police.
