Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has urged citizens to refrain from disclosing information regarding troop movements.
In a short conversation with reporters during his visit to the three soldiers injured in a recent bandit ambush, Governor AbdulRazaq stated that militants are capable of staging ambushes on troops due to intelligence obtained from certain members of the public who serve as informers.
He labeled such activities as treachery, adding that security personnel are making significant efforts to ensure the safety of the nation.
Governor AbdulRazaq was welcomed at the facility by the Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Nigerian Army, Sobi, Brigadier General Nicholas Nemetne Rume, and the Chief Medical Director (CMS) of the Hospital, Prof Abdullah Dasilva Yussuf.
He expressed condolences to the families of the soldiers who lost their lives in the ambush and announced a donation of N20 million each to them and N5 million each to the three others who sustained injuries.
The governor remarked that this situation highlights the sacrifices that uniformed personnel make to maintain the safety of the nation.
He praised law enforcement agencies for their altruistic service and encouraged Nigerians to continue to back them in the national mission.
“We are here to visit the soldiers who were attacked by bandits. Sadly, we lost three of them, and three are currently receiving medical care in the hospital here.
“What we can do is to pray for them and assist the families of the deceased. May their souls rest in peace,” he stated.
“We are grateful for their selfless dedication to the state, to the federation, and to the citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. For those who perished, we will provide their families N60 million, as a temporary support until the Ministry of Defense manages their needs appropriately as is customary.
“For those in the hospital, we will grant them N5 million each so that their families can care for them.
“Once again, this illustrates the peril that security personnel encounter daily. They are always in harm’s way to ensure our safety.
“I call for everyone to join efforts in this struggle against banditry and terrorism,” he continued.
