The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State is encountering considerable obstacles as senior members persist in migrating to the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The APC has experienced a significant transformation, with distinguished members exiting the party to affiliate with the ADC. Among the prominent individuals who switched allegiance on Monday is Senator Sabo Nakudu, who is anticipated to vie for the governorship in 2027.
His transition indicates an escalating shift in loyalty ahead of crucial political engagements.
His departure signifies a notable wave of exits in the state, raising eyebrows and igniting discussions regarding the evolving power dynamics within Jigawa’s political arena.
Analysts speculate that this realignment could alter the political topography in the area as the ADC continues to build momentum.
Rising dissatisfaction between Governor Umar Namadi and his predecessor, Badaru Abubakar, is largely linked to accusations of inadequate party administration and the sidelining of key stakeholders by Governor Namadi, whose leadership approach has faced intensified scrutiny within the party.
Political analysts trace the origins of the turmoil to a strained rapport between Mr. Namadi and his political mentor, former governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, along with his financial supporter, Isa Gerawa.
An associate of the former Defence Minister, who preferred to remain unnamed, mentioned that this situation arises at a moment when Mohammed Badaru Abubakar is diligently working to ensure success for President Tinubu in the state and beyond.
He further noted that former Governor Badaru Abubakar had been engaging with members of various political factions in efforts not only to garner votes for Tinubu but also to guarantee that the APC achieved widespread victories from the grassroots level upwards.
All attempts to reach the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Hamisu, or the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Mamsa, for a balanced viewpoint were unsuccessful.
