The Nigerian armed forces have revealed that their personnel detained two individuals impersonating security agents and thwarted new assaults in various regions of Plateau State.
A communiqué endorsed by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, media liaison officer of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, characterized the occurrence as a significant advancement toward reinstating tranquility in the state.
“In a notable achievement aimed at reinstating the desired harmony in Plateau State, Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, accomplished an impressive feat in the late hours of Thursday during a focused operation at Dutse Uku in Jos North Local Government Area,” the communiqué stated.
“At roughly 11:45 pm, alert troops reacting to an urgent call regarding sporadic gunfire in the Dutse Uku vicinity intercepted and detained two persons masquerading as security agents. These impostors, attired in tactical black outfits, were discovered actively engaged in the arson of residential properties and inciting violence within the locality,” the communiqué continued.
It further noted, “Those apprehended are presently in custody, while two individuals who suffered gunshot injuries were transported by troops to a medical facility for care, and they are in stable condition. This crucial arrest acts as a direct refutation to recent claims suggesting military involvement in the Jos North unrest, effectively demonstrating that the heinous acts previously linked to official personnel are being perpetrated by criminal factions using misleading attire to create discord and tarnish the Armed Forces’ reputation.”
The operation also expanded to Wase Local Government Area, where troops confronted suspected insurgents.
“The momentum of this success extended into Karem in Wase Local Government Area, where high-alert troops effectively disrupted a large-scale movement of insurgents using motorcycles. Following engagement from the military, the extremists retreated under the pressure of sustained combat. During this confrontation, three of the insurgents were successfully neutralized. This spike in operational efficacy follows the strategic deployment of a battalion plus specialized counter-terrorism forces, an initiative initiated by the Chief of Army Staff on Thursday morning,” the communiqué further stated.
The military asserted that the recent deployment of additional personnel has enhanced security operations in the state.
