The Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria, PMAN, Federal Capital Territory Division, has stated that hotel proprietors, event coordinators, and other participants within the country’s entertainment sector in Abuja must obtain authorization for live music ensembles or face penalties.
The association’s interim governor, Michael Oyibo Kaycee, announced this during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.
He cautioned stakeholders in the entertainment field in Abuja to consistently engage licensed musicians.
According to him, the association will from now on not tolerate exploitation, disrespect, or inadequate compensation for musicians in the nation’s capital.
“You are obliged to adhere to industry standards, engage licensed musicians, and fulfill your commitments.
“Our task force is fully operational starting today. The system has been overlooked for far too long. It is crucial for everyone to comprehend the role of PMAN in FCT. Event organizers and planners must seek permission from the association.
He expressed concern over the significant drop in television viewership, labeling it as “remarkably low” in today’s rapidly changing digital landscape.
“Today, nearly everyone holds a television in their pockets. A young individual in a remote location can achieve global fame merely through digital influence. This clearly indicates that digital platforms currently dominate content distribution,” he remarked.
He appealed to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, to assist in addressing the challenges faced by the association.
