Former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has criticized Enzo Fernandez regarding his leadership attributes and recent remarks at the Blues after their UEFA Champions League elimination.
Recall that Fernandez had condemned Chelsea following their Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain last month.
The Argentina World Cup victor stated that PSG were tactically superior to Liam Rosenior’s squad.
Additionally, Fernandez recently made news by informing ESPN Argentina that he was uncertain if his future beyond this season would remain at Chelsea.
The ex-Benfica midfielder then expressed in another interview, with LuzuTV, that if he could reside in any city in Europe, he would opt for Madrid.
However, Obi Mikel feels that Fernandez is not a genuine leader, emphasizing that he must respect Chelsea and the supporters since they are the ones financing his salary.
Speaking on his Obi One Podcast about Fernandez’s recent statements, the former Super Eagles captain remarked, “That is not a leader.
“That situation indicates if you have leaders, if you have individuals that players admire and look up to, you wouldn’t come out and make those comments.
“You don’t make that remark after we’ve been embarrassingly eliminated from the Champions League, wearing the captain’s armband.
“No player is greater than the football club. If he’s had enough, raise your hand and f*** off. And we move on.
“I can comprehend a bit of frustration, but you still need to honor the badge, you still have to respect the football club, you still have to honor the fans, for they are the ones who pay your salary.”
