The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has initiated its 2026 Easter Special Patrol across Nigeria, assigning personnel and operational resources to significant highways to guarantee secure and seamless passage during the festive season.
As per the communication from FRSC, the operation, which extends from April 1 to April 8, 2026, aims to handle the anticipated surge in traffic as Nigerians unite with Christians globally to commemorate Easter.
The Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, mentioned that this initiative has become essential due to the expected increase in vehicle and pedestrian movement throughout the nation.
As part of the initiative, the Corps has pinpointed key routes for concentrated monitoring. These include the Lagos-Ibadan, Sagamu-Ore-Benin, Abuja-Lokoja, Benin-Auchi-Okene, Kaduna-Zaria-Kano, Ilorin-Mokwa-Birnin Gwari, and Bauchi-Gombe corridors. Important eastern routes such as Onitsha-Asaba-Benin, Onitsha-Owerri, and Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt are also encompassed.
According to the Corps, personnel and resources have been strategically situated along these paths to enhance traffic flow, ensure rapid emergency response, and bolster visibility on the highways.
The FRSC stated it will intensify enforcement against major traffic infractions associated with road accidents.
These include excessive speed, reckless driving and overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, mobile phone usage while driving, tyre infringements, road blockages, and mixing passengers with goods.
It also mentioned that special focus would be directed towards seatbelt usage, compliance with child restraints, passengers’ manifest violations, and the operation of unfit vehicles.
To enhance adherence, the Corps will set up mobile courts along primary routes for the swift trial of offenders, an approach aimed at fostering discipline and accountability among drivers.
“To bolster adherence and discourage traffic violations, mobile courts will be established along major routes for the immediate prosecution of offenders,” the statement indicated.
“The Corps has activated continuous patrol, rescue, and traffic management services, supported by the deployment of patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, and modern enforcement tools,” the statement continued.
Moreover, public awareness efforts will be amplified through National Traffic Radio 107.1 FM and other platforms to deliver real-time updates and safety guidance to travelers.
The Corps Marshal reassured Nigerians of the FRSC’s dedication to safeguarding lives and properties on the roads and urged drivers to observe traffic regulations, avoid hazardous driving behaviors, and ensure their vehicles are in optimal condition before commencing any journey.
