
Alleged criminals have assaulted a wedding gathering in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 individuals and kidnapping an indeterminate amount of guests.
The assault took place late on Sunday night when the perpetrators invaded the site and initiated gunfire on individuals assembled for the festivity.
Sources indicated that the assailants, who were extensively armed, operated for almost an hour without any opposition.
A local resident, Shehu Bala, mentioned that the gunmen arrived at approximately 11:47 pm and commenced shooting inside the wedding venue, inducing terror among the attendees.
“In fact, two of my acquaintances who were within the hall also suffered gunshot wounds during the onslaught,” Daily Trust cited him as stating.
Numerous injured individuals were hurried to Kagarko General Hospital, while those with more severe injuries were sent to Kaduna for advanced care.
A community leader verified that 13 individuals lost their lives in the ambush. He stated that the deceased have since been interred, while efforts are ongoing to ascertain the number of those abducted.
He disclosed that the assailants also plundered stores in the vicinity, seizing food supplies, provisions, and medications from a local pharmacy during the incursion.
“The entire community was engulfed in fear due to the intense gunfire, prompting some inhabitants to escape into the wilderness,” the community leader remarked.
Law enforcement officials in Kagarko validated the occurrence but noted they are still collecting information, particularly concerning the quantity of individuals seized.
The representative of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Hassan Mansur, also verified the fatalities and kidnappings, indicating that a comprehensive report will be issued once investigations are finalized.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, along with a sitting senator, reportedly visited the injured individuals at the hospital in Kagarko.
