Anambra Authority Dismantles Drug-Infested Brothel in Bold Clean-Up Operation

The Anambra State Government on Sunday evening razed Airtight Guest House and Bar, an establishment that operates as a brothel, where a significant stockpile of illicit substances was uncovered on Saturday night.

Agents of Agunechemba, a local security firm, had on Saturday dismantled the brothel, detaining its manager, storekeeper, and bartender, alongside 20 women believed to be sex workers and several male visitors.

The guest house, situated at Y-Junction, Okpuno, Awka South LGA, had been recognized as a hub for criminals and drug dealers/users. The agents, under the guidance of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, seized a substantial shipment of hard drugs from the establishment.

The manager and storekeeper of the guest house admitted to trafficking in hard drugs, in addition to leasing their premises to sex workers for transient use.

The guest house manager, Mr. Paul Chibuike, also known as “Mandela,” originally from Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, claimed he was merely overseeing the operation for his employer, whom he described as an individual from Nnewi.

He disclosed that his employer operates another drug outlet in Awka’s red-light area, Abakaliki Street, while also insisting that they supervise sex workers to prevent men from staying overnight at the venue.

Among the drugs discovered in the establishment were Tramadol, marijuana (commonly referred to as “cana”), nitrous oxide (often called “laughing gas”), Rohypnol, and various other hard substances. A homemade single-barrel shotgun was also recovered during the raid.

The manager noted that the firearm was left behind by a guest who utilized the facility.

In a prompt response, the Anambra State Government demolished the property, invoking the Anambra Homeland Security Law, which permits the government to seize any property implicated in kidnapping, drug activities, and other offenses.

Emeakayi, during the demolition, cautioned property owners to ensure they verify the identities and actions of their tenants prior to leasing their properties to avoid potential repercussions.
