Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has praised law enforcement agencies in Aba for not mistreating citizens who took part in a free Nnamdi Kanu demonstration held on March 12, 2026.
The governor also expressed gratitude to the inhabitants of Enyimba city for their peaceful behavior and for avoiding any acts of aggression.
Otti, while addressing at Government House, Umuahia, on Friday during his monthly press interaction, stated that the Abia State government, upon receiving news about the situation, took all necessary steps to guarantee that there was no disruption of peace and order.
He further emphasized that the reports his office received indicated that the residents were not subjected to intimidation by the law enforcement agencies.
“We appreciate the security agencies for their non-aggressive stance towards the residents. We also recognize the citizens of Aba for maintaining peace.”
Regarding the alleged actions of herders in certain Abia communities, Governor Otti mentioned that his government would not permit the devastation of people’s farmland.
He, however, advised Abia residents to refrain from taking justice into their own hands and instead report to the appropriate authorities for necessary measures.
“We are highly unyielding towards any herder damaging people’s farms. We also urge the populace not to seize the law into their own hands,” he remarked.
Concerning the escalating rental prices in Umuahia and Aba, Otti stated that he would not compel landlords to impose lower charges, as he believes the influx of newcomers from other regions and the significant demand for accommodation are key contributors to the rising costs.
Nevertheless, he mentioned that the ongoing housing projects his administration is implementing throughout the state would assist in addressing the rental issues.
