The Police Command in Osun indicates that it has apprehended four individuals in relation to the assault on its officers by suspected criminals in Ilobu town, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.
This information is included in a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on Thursday in Osogbo.
Ojelabi stated that the command was highly alarmed by a viral video circulating on social media depicting the assault on police officers by criminals in the community.
“The command vehemently denounces the action, as it is illegal and a direct affront to established authority,” he remarked.
He clarified that the episode ensued when a team of police officers was dispatched in response to reports of disturbances caused by criminals over a contested land boundary between the Erin-Osun and Ilobu communities.
Ojelabi mentioned that upon their arrival, the officers dispersed the criminals.
As per him, some youths in Ilobu then reacted violently and attacked the officers while they were executing their lawful duties.
He added that one of the officers was pulled to the palace of the traditional ruler in Ilobu, where he was subjected to further inhumane treatment.
Ojelabi reported that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, had sent an intervention team to the location, further noting that four individuals had been apprehended in connection with the occurrence.
He mentioned that additional suspects had been identified and will soon face justice.
The command, consequently, cautioned residents of Erin-Osun and Ilobu to refrain from all forms of violence and assaults on security personnel.
