Previous Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political Affairs, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, asserts that Nigeria is presently in a more severe predicament than when Tinubu assumed office in 2023.
Baba-Ahmed expressed this on Tuesday while responding to inquiries during an interview on Trust TV, emphasizing that even Tinubu himself recognizes his shortcomings.
He discussed the condition of Nigeria as a nation, addressing aspects from the economy to security.
“We are in a more severe predicament than when you arrived. Violence is escalating beyond our projections. Three years into President Tinubu’s administration, we are witnessing a rise in the nature of violence and its scale and consequences on our populace that we’ve never encountered before.
“This is a leader who came to power vowing to eradicate this insecurity and to forge a new direction for Nigeria, establish improved living standards for Nigerians, and ensure a safer and more prosperous life.
“The president himself would concede that he has not succeeded in doing this, in fulfilling the commitments he has made and in securing the safety of Nigerians.
“A few days ago, the President, alongside a sizable entourage of ministers and government representatives, journeyed to the United Kingdom on a state visit. It was a notably celebratory occasion, based on media coverage, quite a joyful event.
“This transpired at a time when, just days prior, there were some of the most shocking assaults in Borno state, shortly before the departure of this considerable delegation that the President led,” he lamented.
