Agents of the Anti-Vandal Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Rivers State Command, have discovered an unauthorized facility in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area, utilized for the storage of pilfered crude oil.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Iheanacho Umeado, revealed that the location harbored a significant, unspecified amount of materials believed to be stolen from damaged pipelines and stored in GP tanks.
He elaborated that the find was the result of several days of reliable intelligence gathering, culminating in a rapid operation at the site.
During a review of the location, the State Commandant, Joachin Okafor, reiterated the Corps’ position against unlawful bunkering, labeling it as a grave menace to the nation’s economy and environment.
He cautioned offenders to cease their activities or confront severe legal repercussions.
“The Corps upholds a zero tolerance policy for illegal bunkering and will tirelessly pursue those involved, irrespective of their status,” Okafor remarked.
He also expressed concern regarding the environmental destruction caused by such practices and instructed the Command’s Intelligence Department to enhance investigations to pinpoint those accountable.
