President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Wednesday, at Windsor Castle in Britain, referenced several footballers, athletes of Nigerian descent who have opted to represent England as he aimed to highlight the ties of camaraderie, history, and mutual objectives that have linked the two nations.
The Nigerian leader cited the Arsenal pair, Eberechi Eze, Bukayo Saka, and Anthony Joshua as examples to reinforce his argument about the inability of the two nations to function independently.
Tinubu remarked that Nigeria and the United Kingdom share more than mere history, adding that both nations possess a vision for advancement and resilience.
The President highlighted that the Nigerian populace in the United Kingdom has emerged as one of the most vibrant diaspora communities across the globe.
Tinubu stated, “Nigerians significantly enhance the dynamism of this country. In the National Health Service, Nigerian physicians and nurses fulfill a vital role in providing healthcare.
“Doctors educated in Nigeria constitute one of the largest segments of international medical practitioners serving the NHS.
“In the realm of sports, rugby athletes like Maro Itoje, footballers such as Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze, along with champion boxer Anthony Joshua exemplify the extraordinary human connection that intertwines Nigeria and the United Kingdom.”
He further stated, “Our collaboration is further solidified through the Commonwealth of Nations, which unites 56 countries under Your Majesty’s guidance.
“As one of the most substantial nations within the Commonwealth, Nigeria anticipates playing a constructive role in the ongoing development and vibrancy of this global community.”
