“Uba Sani Restores Hope: Victims of Demolition Receive Land as Compensation”

The Kaduna State Government has provided new parcels of land to inhabitants of Malali Low-Cost in Kaduna, whose residences were razed by the Nasir El Rufai administration.

The Director General of Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS), Dr. Bashir Garba Ibrahim, who handed the land titles to recipients, emphasized that this initiative fulfills Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to deliver justice for the affected individuals.

Dr. Ibrahim highlighted that the distribution of the land titles is a direct outcome of the stakeholders meeting held on January 21, which resolved to examine the events leading to the demolition by the previous leadership.

While presenting the new opportunities, Dr. Ibrahim urged the recipients to develop the parcels swiftly.

He additionally advised them against selling the plots, stating, “we want you to become homeowners and aid in the progress of our state.”

In response on behalf of the recipients, the leader of the former Malali Low-Cost residents, Alhaji Mohammed Auwal, expressed appreciation to Governor Uba Sani for addressing their issues.

Reflecting on their nine-year fight for compensation, he also praised the Director General of KADGIS for his role in facilitating the new land grants.

Other inhabitants also commended the Kaduna State Governor for his empathetic and community-focused approach to leadership.

It should be noted that the Kaduna State Development and Property Company (KSDPC) had issued a seven-day eviction notice to residents of Malali Low Cost in October 2020.

The residents protested the brief notice and stressed the necessity for their right of first refusal, leading to a postponement of the decision at that time.

Nevertheless, in March 2021, a three-day eviction notice was delivered to the residents, and after its expiration, over 80 buildings were demolished initially.

The impacted homeowners had been in discussions with the Kaduna State Government for compensation or alternative parcels since the demolition took place.
