“2027: Lagos Natives Rally for Governorship Role from APC”

A coalition operating under the title of Lagos State Distinguished Indigenes has urged the All Progressives Congress to allocate the state’s governorship role to competent native candidates in the 2027 elections, highlighting the necessity for fairness, equality, and inclusion.

This appeal was voiced during a technical committee gathering held on March 18, 2026, where the coalition also expressed its backing for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for another term.

During the assembly, participants further agreed that essential leadership roles in Lagos State, encompassing the positions of Governor, Deputy Governor, and Speaker of the House of Assembly, should, by 2027, be filled by natives of the state.

In a statement released at the conclusion of the meeting, signed by the Convenor, Adesunbo Onitiri, the coalition articulated that its stance is based on the need to foster fairness, maintain local heritage, and enhance stakeholder engagement in governance.

As per the statement, individuals aspiring for the governorship must fulfill explicitly outlined requirements, including verifiable Lagos lineage, robust academic and professional qualifications, and significant experience in leadership within the public or private sectors.

The coalition also underscored the significance of integrity, asserting that potential candidates must possess a spotless record, devoid of corruption or criminal claims.

“They ought to demonstrate strong character, discipline, and commendable personal conduct, alongside proven accomplishments within and outside Lagos State,” the statement noted.

It further mentioned that such individuals should show dedication to societal principles, including familial responsibilities, while also exhibiting the capacity to lead collaboratively with an emphasis on transformative governance.

The coalition additionally indicated its willingness to collaborate with all eligible candidates, aiming to identify and support those capable of promoting the shared interests and future advancement of Lagos State.
