He completed his primary and secondary education in Anambra state, where he received his first school leaving certificate and West African senior school certificate, respectively.
After finishing his secondary schooling, he was accepted into the University of Maiduguri, situated in Borno state, northern Nigeria, where he obtained his first degree.

While Madu initiated his acting career at age 5, he became a professional in Nollywood in 1998.
