“Osun Guber: Accord Party Rises in Momentum as Election Approaches, Says Speaker”

Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has stated that the increasing support network of the Accord Party in the region indicates a robust position ahead of the elections.

Speaker Egbedun revealed this on Saturday during a defection event for over 500 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Accord Party at a rally conducted in Inisa, Odo Otin local government area.

Speaking to supporters at the occasion, Egbedun expressed that the party remains optimistic about achieving success at the polls, highlighting what he referred to as the administration’s record of performance.

“The legacy of success and accomplishments will resonate, and by August 15, victory will be evident,” Egbedun remarked.

He also encouraged electoral authorities to maintain transparency, emphasizing that the credibility of the voting procedure must be safeguarded.

“Votes need to be counted, and the process should be fair and free. The electoral commission must function as a genuine public institution,” he added.

Egbedun appealed to current party members to welcome the newcomers, noting that unity will be vital in the weeks approaching the elections.

“I extend a warm welcome to our brothers and sisters who have joined us. Party members should collaborate with them for the advancement of the state,” he stated.

The defectors, led by Aare Kazeem Abdulrasheed, cited internal discontent within the APC as the main factor for their choice to abandon the party.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Abdulrasheed condemned the APC’s internal framework, claiming that decision-making had become centralized in the hands of a select few.

“We departed because the party has evolved into a sole proprietorship, dominated by one individual whose leadership has adversely affected the state,” he declared.

He further remarked that the defectors were attracted to the leadership approach of the current administration under Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The upcoming election will see Adeleke vying for re-election on the Accord platform, while Bola Oyebamiji will represent the APC.

Also in the contest is Najeem Salaam, running under the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as voters gear up to select the state’s next governor.
