Elderly Suspect Nabbed in Nasarawa for Spreading Counterfeit Cash



Members of the Nigeria Police Force in Nasarawa have detained a 62-year-old individual, Mamuda Hassan, over alleged participation in the distribution of forged currency within the State.

The individual, reportedly residing in Anchor Zaria in Kaduna State, was apprehended by officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia following reliable intelligence.

As stated by the police, Hassan was seized at a livestock market in Lafia while purportedly engaging in transactions with counterfeit N1,000 notes.

Police inquiries unveiled that the detainee admitted to acquiring the forged currency from an associate located in Mararaba Akunza, Lafia, who is presently on the run.

In a declaration, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, representing the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, affirmed that initiatives are underway to capture additional members of the organization.

“Initial investigation disclosed that the suspect was taken into custody at the livestock market in Lafia while actively engaging in transactions involving fake N1,000 denomination notes,” the declaration read.

The Commissioner of Police also urged the public, especially vendors, fuel station clerks, POS operators, and transport personnel, to stay alert during their daily dealings.

“The public should be vigilant for indicators such as poor print quality, reduced size, repeated serial numbers, and lack of visible security features,” the declaration added.

He additionally advised residents to swiftly report any dubious activity related to counterfeit currency to the nearest police station.

The police guaranteed that the suspect will be brought before the court following the conclusion of investigations.
