“Basiru Urges Opposition to Cease Finger-Pointing at APC for Party Turmoil”

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, has urged opposing parties to cease attributing their internal conflicts to the ruling party, insisting that political organizations must accept accountability for how they oversee their matters.

Basiru expressed this view during a press interaction on Wednesday, addressing worries that the ruling party exerts influence or hinders opposition efforts.

He rejected the accusations, asserting there is no proof that the ruling party is accountable for the turmoil affecting other political organizations.

Basiru contended that the majority of the conflicts within opposition parties stem from their own internal disputes and inability to adhere to proper procedures, rather than outside meddling.

“Have you observed any APC member contesting our internal procedures? If you claim APC is the origin of the issue, you should first examine whether those parties are adhering to due process.

“We cannot be disparaging the institution of the judiciary or democracy merely to support political narratives.

“Some parties proceed with conventions despite court directives, which clearly violates the law.

“What is the conclusion of political party discipline if individuals disregard court decisions and still carry out parallel leadership processes?

“Cease blaming APC for internal party conflicts. Political parties must introspect and manage their affairs within the framework of the law.”

He reiterated that the APC functions within the law and honors democratic institutions, including the judiciary.
