
The Police Commissioner of Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has mandated a comprehensive inquiry into the occurrence at Emirate Hotel, Ikere-Ekiti, which led to the demise of a hotel employee and two students from Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI).
Initial investigation indicated that the students had convened at the hotel for a post-convocation celebration following their ceremony on April 18, 2026.
The celebration continued into the early hours of the next day.
During the gathering, a dispute broke out between two unidentified students, escalating into a confrontation.
As some guests attempted to exit the hotel, a rush ensued, leading to a stampede that resulted in the loss of three lives.
The remains of the deceased individuals have been taken to the morgue for examination.
CP Adegoroye conveyed his sympathies to the family and friends of the victims and urged for tranquility.
He assured the public that the Command will diligently pursue every lead to uncover the details surrounding the incident.
A declaration by the State PPRO, SP Sunday Abutu stated that the investigation is in progress.
