“Turmoil in Adamawa: Binani’s Coalition Exits Amid ADC Crisis”

New divisions have surfaced within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, as a dominant faction associated with Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani declared a mass exit from the party, citing what it termed a “complete breakdown of internal democracy.”

The resolution, articulated in a communiqué released after a stakeholders’ assembly convened at the home of Hon. Mijiyewa Umaru Kugama, indicates a significant political transformation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The coalition, representing the three senatorial districts of the state, accused the party leadership at both state and national tiers of undermining democratic values and enforcing illegitimate frameworks.

“The conduct of the party leadership has annihilated internal democracy, compromised the rule of law, and rendered the party structure in Adamawa State both illegitimate and unacceptable,” the communiqué expressed.

Central to the turmoil are the recently completed party congresses, which stakeholders allege were tainted by manipulation and imposition under the leadership of Ishaya Bauka (retd).

According to the faction, court decisions and existing prohibitions were disregarded, establishing what they described as a “hazardous precedent of lawlessness.”

“The congresses were fundamentally defective, manipulated, and imposed against the preferences of the majority of party members,” the stakeholders asserted.

They additionally accused party executives of marginalizing key participants through “systematic exclusion, intimidation, and imposition,” contending that the ADC has thus forfeited its respectability as a democratic entity in the state.

In a series of significant resolutions, the faction pronounced a vote of no confidence in the ADC leadership and declared their “immediate and irreversible resignation en masse” from the party.

The group also dismissed all results from the contested congresses, labeling them “null and void.”

“We refuse to engage in a system that flourishes on injustice, impunity, and illegality,” the communiqué stated.

The stakeholders confirmed intentions to unite with a new political entity, though no specific party was officially identified.

Nevertheless, they empowered Senator Binani to lead the transition and orchestrate a comprehensive strategy ahead of the ensuing electoral cycle.

Political analysts suggest that this development could notably alter the political scene in Adamawa, particularly with Binani anticipated to remain a pivotal figure in the 2027 gubernatorial contest.

The communiqué detailed plans for a coordinated defection framework spanning polling units, wards, and local government areas, alongside vigorous grassroots mobilization under a new platform.

“This decision signifies the onset of a new political trajectory grounded in credibility, inclusiveness, and authentic democratic ideals,” the stakeholders concluded.

The crisis exacerbates rising tensions within opposition parties nationwide, with analysts cautioning that unresolved internal conflicts could diminish party solidarity ahead of future elections.
