
Following reports that security personnel discharged firearms during an apprehension operation in the vicinity, apprehension seized the inhabitants of Maraban Foron in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Thursday evening.
The occurrence, which transpired at approximately 7 pm, plunged the community into disarray as inhabitants sought refuge.
The echo of gunfire incited dread throughout the region, with numerous individuals scurrying in various directions.
A source informed NAIJATAB that the operation purportedly involved a collaborative unit of security personnel, including members of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), which ignited widespread hysteria.
According to him, “A handful of inhabitants sustained injuries while attempting to flee the vicinity. The scenario was exacerbated by the fact that the incident coincided with the community’s market day, compelling vendors to abruptly close their stalls, while others abandoned their merchandise and fled.”
The situation, he remarked, reawakened memories of the recent unrest in Angwan Rukuba, amplifying worries of a potential new assault.
He continued that as soon as they perceived gunfire, individuals began to sprint; everyone was uneasy because of recent events in other areas of the state.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement, Rwang Tenglong, likewise corroborated the occurrence, stating that it incited fear within the community and resulted in a number of injuries.
He clarified that he could not determine the precise motive behind the operation, nor could he verify the identity of the individual apprehended.
