The Nigerian Correctional Service, Yobe State division, has proclaimed a 30-year-old sentenced inmate as wanted following his escape when the vehicle transporting inmates from Potiskum to Damaturu was involved in a vehicular accident.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Abdullahi Adamu, communicated this information in a statement released on Wednesday and made accessible to journalists in Damaturu.

As per the command, the occurrence took place on April 13, 2026, when the vehicle transporting inmates from MSCC Potiskum to Damaturu was entangled in a collision.

“The regrettable incident transpired while efforts were underway to assist the affected victims of the accident,” the statement indicated.

The Command disclosed the identity of the escaped inmate as Dahiru Mohammed, who is 30 years old, with prison number J/1539/24 admitted on 29/11/24.

“The escaped individual is deemed perilous and the public is cautioned against engaging in any personal interactions with him,” it warned.

It urged the public to reach out to the nearest police station or correctional institution should they have any information concerning the whereabouts of the fugitive, cautioning that providing shelter to a fugitive is a grave criminal offense and subject to legal punishment.
