Supreme Court Confirms Death Sentences for Jigawa’s Convicted Killers

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has upheld the capital punishments of two individuals convicted in distinct homicide cases in Jigawa State, rejecting their appeals and concluding years of judicial proceedings.

In a unanimous ruling delivered on Friday, the highest court dismissed the appeals labeled SC/CR/2020/69 and SC/CR/70/2020, reaffirming previous judgments made by the Jigawa State High Court and the Court of Appeal of Nigeria.

The defendants, Abdulmajid Hassan and Adamu Audu, were adjudicated guilty in separate occurrences involving lethal stabbings. The Supreme Court’s resolution effectively depletes all legal avenues accessible to the accused, ratifying the sentences imposed by the lower courts.

In response to the verdict in Abuja, Jigawa State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Bello A. Fanini, remarked that the decisions underline the state government’s commitment to ensuring justice in cases of violent offenses.

“This verdict conveys a straightforward indication that Jigawa is not a sanctuary for unlawful behavior,” Fanini proclaimed, adding that the state’s justice framework remains devoted to protecting lives and property.
