
Numerous mourners on Thursday gathered in Zuru, Kebbi State as the deceased Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru (Lifiddan Zuru), was interred amid profound sorrow.
The burial prayer, conducted at the Zuru Jumu’at Mosque around 6:00 p.m. and led by Imam Suleiman Tanko, attracted a substantial number of supporters, including governmental representatives, traditional leaders, and political figures from inside and outside the state.
The Speaker passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, at a medical facility in Cairo, Egypt, following a lengthy illness.
Among those present were Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris; the Emir of Zuru, Muhammadu Sanusi Sami Gomo III; Deputy Governor Umar Abubakar Tafida; Senator Muhammad Adamu Alieru; and former Governor Saidu Usman Nasamu Dakingari, along with members of the State House of Assembly and the Executive Council.
During the burial rites, Governor Idris characterized the Speaker’s demise as a significant loss for both the state and the country.
“His departure is an immense loss not just to his family and the residents of Zuru Emirate but also to Kebbi State and the wider nation,” he stated.
“He embodied humility, dedication, and steadfast commitment to legislative duties and the advancement of our state,” he elaborated.
“The remarkable attendance of mourners from both within and outside Kebbi State is a testament to the influence he had on the lives of our citizens and the esteem he garnered across all strata.
“We beseech Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and provide his family, the Kebbi State House of Assembly, and all the citizens of our state the fortitude to endure this profound loss.
“May his serene soul find eternal peace,” Idris concluded.
