“Tragic Toll: Over 1,400 Christians Lose Lives in Nigeria, According to Intersociety Report”

A human rights organization, International Society for Civil Rights and Rule of Law, Intersociety, has claimed that there is persistent oppression and slaughter of Christians in Nigeria.

Intersociety has been leading efforts to advocate for an end to the purported genocidal killings of Christians in Nigeria.

The Nigerian administration has consistently maintained that there is no form of targeted violence against Christians in the nation.

Nevertheless, in a declaration released on Monday, the rights organization contended that the slaughter of Christians and the oppression of churches in Nigeria have continued to expand and amplify, with involvement from state actors escalating unchecked.

The statement was endorsed by Emeka Umeagbalasi, Chief, Intersociety, Chidinma Evangeline Udegbunam, Chief, Dept. of Campaign and Publicity, and Obianuju Joy Igboeli, Chief, Dept. of Civil Liberties and Rule of Law.

It asserted that despite the expenditure of tens of millions of dollars since the conclusion of October 2025 by the Nigerian Government in global lobbying to deny and obliterate evidence of “Nigerian Christian Genocide” and additional multimillion dollars spent on international trips to downplay Christian Genocide, “the slaughter of Christians and oppression of churches have persisted and become progressively extensive.”

Intersociety indicated that “such state actor denials have been overshadowed by escalating displays of gross prejudice and overt protection of the jihadists by Nigeria’s security leaders and recent public admissions by Government-aligned Islamic groups, including openly pledging to perpetuate their violent Islamism until Nigeria transforms into a complete Sharia State.”

It stated that “1,402 Christians were martyred and 1,800 kidnapped within 96 days (Jan-April 6):

“These statistics surged from then to Easter Monday of April 6, 2026, with an additional 350 Christian fatalities and 110 kidnappings—totaling 1,402 Christian deaths and 1,800 kidnappings in the first 96 days of 2026, from Thursday, Jan 1 to Monday, April 6, 2026.”

“The 350 Christian fatalities comprised 102 deaths documented in the Holy Week from March 28 to Saturday, April 4, 2026; 34 deaths recorded on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, alone; 20 Christian fatalities noted between March 20 and March 27 and the added grim figures of 16 deaths.

“It is also specified that 180 of the 35 Christian fatalities arise from the 1,800 (10%) kidnapped Christians across Nigeria since January 2026 and were not included in our updated Report of March 19, 2026.

“Such jihadist captivity deaths must have resulted from physical torment, starvation, gunfire injuries, machete wounds, untreated trauma, and other inhumane or degrading treatments during the affected victims’ imprisonment at the hands of jihadists.

“In other terms, out of every ten kidnapped Christians, one is unlikely to return alive; out of every 100 kidnapped, ten will not come back alive; and out of every 1000 kidnapped, 100 will never return,” it further noted.

The organization highlighted key flashpoint states where the fatalities occurred as Benue, Kaduna, Borno, Plateau, Bauchi, Zamfara, Kebbi, Taraba, Adamawa, Niger, among others.

It expressed sorrow that thousands of displaced Christians are presently seeking refuge at various IDP centers across the nation.
