A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has reiterated his dedication to the party, asserting he will not depart despite its internal challenges.
Lamido disclosed this on Saturday during a PDP stakeholders’ assembly in Dutse, Jigawa State, where party officials gathered to deliberate on the party’s prospects amidst internal discord and a rising number of defections.
He condemned prominent politicians who have switched allegiance and allied with lesser parties.
“PDP is my political residence. It may face hurdles, but it continues to be my residence. I will not forsake it for another party,” he declared.
The former governor warned that deserting the party due to its struggles is not the solution, likening it to abandoning one’s family in challenging times.
“Departing from your home because it faces issues is not the remedy,” he continued.
Lamido further alleged that certain politicians are now striving to dominate or “usurp” smaller political organizations, notably the African Democratic Congress (ADC), from their original architects.
“They vacated their significant home and now aim to seize smaller parties established by others,” he asserted, cautioning that such maneuvers could jeopardize political integrity and party progress.
Lamido stressed that PDP’s dilemmas should be addressed through internal reforms and shared responsibility rather than defections.
He urged party members to remain devoted and collaborate to rebuild and reinforce the party from within.
He stated that unity and commitment would enable the party to reclaim its vigor and credibility in preparation for upcoming elections.
He also encouraged party supporters to revalidate their party registration online and ensure voter registration in anticipation of the 2027 general election.
