“Traffic Standstill: 15 Arrested for Blockading Lagos-Abeokuta Highway”

The Ogun State Police Command has detained 15 individuals for purportedly obstructing public thoroughfares and violating environmental statutes along the Ifo segment of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the detentions in a statement issued on Friday in Ota.

He remarked that this initiative is part of the ongoing “No Traffic Congestion” operation in the region.

According to Babaseyi, the enforcement effort was executed under the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, to ensure unobstructed traffic flow and uphold public order throughout the state.

Officers from the Ifo Division were assigned to critical points, especially the Abekoko and Old Bank areas of the expressway, where frequent traffic disturbances had been reported.

“The operation targeted traders’ unlawful display of merchandise and temporary structures that impeded vehicle movement and contravened environmental regulations.

“During the enforcement, numerous boards, shanties, and other objects obstructing the highway were removed, with over six trucks deployed to clear the site,” Babaseyi stated.

The PRO added that the 15 individuals who disregarded lawful directives and breached environmental regulations were taken into custody and will face legal proceedings upon the completion of investigations.

Babaseyi expressed that the Commissioner of Police praised the officers for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s dedication to enforcing traffic and environmental regulations.

He cautioned that any individual or group, including vendors and transport operators, found obstructing public roads will face suitable legal repercussions.
