“Supreme Court Verdict: Key to PDP’s Path Forward, Warns Attorney Maduabuchi”

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Oba Maduabuchi, has asserted that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, cannot advance without a final ruling from the Supreme Court.

Maduabuchi expressed this during an interview on Arise Television on Monday while addressing questions.

He mentioned that the Court of Appeal supported the removal of individuals from the Pro-Wike faction.

The senior attorney pointed out that, nonetheless, the same individuals were appointed as members of the National Working Committee during the recently concluded PDP national convention.

In his view, the judgment issued by Justice James Omotoso of the Federal High Court is inconsistent, emphasizing that, “You can’t claim the Pro-Wike faction was legitimately removed from the party and simultaneously validate the administration led by Abdulrahman Mohammed as genuine.”

“To fully grasp how dire the situation has become, we need to revisit the origins. Iyorchia Ayu served as the national chairman of the PDP, and he was widely accepted.

“He was ousted, and Umar Damagum took over. Damagum faced his challenges, but nonetheless, he remained until December 2025 when his term concluded.

“That’s where our issues began. There is this Mohammed Abdulrahman who unexpectedly became the chairman or acting chairman of the caretaker committee. Personally, I was unaware of how he emerged.

“The Damagum NWC notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that they intended to convene regarding their convention, which INEC consented to. They were allotted 21 days.

The meeting occurred, and during this gathering, certain individuals were removed or expelled from the party. Indeed, without a Supreme Court ruling, PDP cannot move forward,” he remarked.
