England head coach, Thomas Tuchel, has addressed the media for the first time since Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice departed the training camp prior to their exhibition match against Japan.

The Arsenal pair have returned to their club for additional medical assessments.

Tuchel, conversing with journalists on Monday, emphasized it “made no sense” to retain Saka and Rice.

The German coach asserted that both players were keen to participate; however, it would have been a perilous choice.

“Saka and Rice were eager to play… but it was illogical to take this risk for us and for them,” Tuchel stated.

“They were evidently in pain. There was a chance of exacerbating their condition.”
