“Defiant Forces Thwart ISWAP Assault in Borno, Dispatch 38 Insurgents”

Forces of Operation “HADIN KAI” thwarted a synchronized assault by ISWAP militants on a Forward Operating Base, FOB, Mandaragirau, located in Sector 2, Borno, resulting in the elimination of 38 insurgents.

This information is included in a statement released by Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer at Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East).

He indicated that the attack took place in the early hours of Saturday.

Uba stated that the militants initiated what he termed a “lackluster” attack on the FOB.

He mentioned that the forces countered with a synchronized offensive-defensive maneuver, compelling the insurgents into an unorganized withdrawal.

As reported, the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI supplied aerial assistance and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) to facilitate precise strikes.

He further noted that the troops chased the retreating insurgents along their escape routes, inflicting additional casualties.

“Approximately 38 terrorists were neutralized, with eight bodies retrieved from the immediate engagement zone.

“Local human intelligence verified over 30 supplementary bodies and arms left behind along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere route towards the Timbuktu Triangle,” he remarked.

Uba indicated that this assertion was supported by blood trails and discarded equipment noticed by troops during their operations.

He said that the forces also confiscated seven AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, four rocket-propelled grenade munitions, and various ammunition.

He added that no casualties were reported among the troops, though one Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle sustained damage from rocket-propelled grenade fire.

“The injured personnel have been stabilized,” he confirmed.

Uba noted that the magnitude of losses endured by the militants had triggered celebrations within local communities.

He stated that this situation highlighted the enduring superiority of troops in obstructing terrorists’ freedom of movement in the North-East.

He added that additional exploration operations were ongoing along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere route to recover bodies and solidify achievements.

Uba conveyed that the Military High Command praised the troops for their bravery and determination.

He encouraged them to maintain the operational momentum in the interest of regional security.
