The Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Moriki, along with 12 additional legislators, have transitioned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Moriki disclosed the switch during a plenary session in Gusau on Monday after submitting letters of resignation on behalf of the legislators.
This shift follows the recent move of Governor Dauda Lawal from the PDP to the APC.
The APC has planned Tuesday, March 24, to officially welcome the governor and the switching lawmakers into the party.
Among the defectors are the Deputy Speaker, Adamu Aliyu (Gummi II Constituency); Majority Leader, Bello Mazawaje (Tsafe East Constituency); and Chief Whip, Rilwanu Nagambo (Anka Constituency).
Moriki stated that the choice was made to align with the governor and foster progress in the state.
“Our choice is focused on facilitating seamless cooperation between the state and federal administrations,” he mentioned.
With this defection, the APC now possesses complete dominion over the Zamfara State House of Assembly.
